Carphone Warehouse has stated that it has agreed to acquire AOL’s UK Internet business for 370 million pounds.

It will acquire AOL’s large customer base of around 2.1 million with about 1.5 million of them connected to broadband.  Carphone Warehouse will also take control of management and infrastructure.  It will also utilise AOL’s advertising sales through a revenue sharing agreement.

The announcement immediately follows reported losses of £70 million this year due to unprecendented demand for its free broadband service.
