Orange broadband price changes reviewed

Orange reduce price for broadband following disappointing sales.

The new price for 8 meg unlimited broadband is reduced from £27.99 to £19.99 a month.  Or £5 a month when taken out with a £30 Orange mobile contract. This last offer has an 18 month minimum contract rather than 12 months.

Broadband subscriber numbers remained static for Orange despite the introduction of free broadband with a £30 a month mobile contract.  So the move to reduce prices is not surprising.  Industry analysts have commented that the ‘free’ broadband marketing strategy may have caused consumers to be weary, following the widely publicised handling of free broadband offers from companies such as Talk Talk.  The recent handling of the outage on the Orange LLU network will also have hurt.

The broadband price cut brings it more into line with its direct competitors.  However, it remains to be seen if this will help improve sales.   They need to raise the profile of their customer service and improve the stability and handling of their network to make more of an impact.
