Key industry players are to gather in Berlin next week at the Broadband World Forum Europe 2007.

The event, hosted by the International Engineering Consortium (IEC), will cover an array of broadband / information and communications technology (ICT) related topics such as IPTV, Mobile TV, Next-Gen DSL, Convergent Media and FTTx (Fibre to the premises). The event will compose of a series of half-day workshops, seminar panels and general sessions.

CTO of Deutsche Telekom, Friedrich Fuss is to chair proceedings from over 260 speakers.  It takes place from 8 – 11 October 2007.

One of the sessions is “Emerging Convergent Media” with BT, where the company’s nm2 project comes under the spotlight. The nm2 project focuses on the creation of new media genres utilising broadband networks, as well as new production tools for the media industry in the creation of highly tailored media content.

IEC President John Janowiak said, “Exciting concepts such as choose-your-own ending TV, conceived and developed by BT, will be just one of the many intriguing topics discussed at the BBWF Europe. Delegates will learn how viewers can interact directly with the content they are watching on TV and influence what they see and hear according to their personal tastes and wishes…it’s truly an exciting innovation.”

Richard Griffiths, director of technology strategy and development at BT Vision said, “The convergence between the Internet and TV has been talked about for many years, but it was only after ordinary consumers got high-speed broadband pipes directly into their homes that really innovative convergent applications became technically and commercially viable. BT’s plenary panel at the BBWF Europe 2007 will showcase how the industry leaders in broadband convergence are enabling truly innovative formats - ones that really engage with the TV viewers and utilize the broadband pipe to the fullest.”
