Vodafone, Sky and BT in the running to buy Tiscali

Italian operator Tiscali has produced a short-list of bidders interested in buying the company.

According to the Fincancial Times, Tiscali was to open up its books to 6 of the 7 companies that were interested.  The shortlist is thought to include Vodafone, British Sky Broadcasting Group (BSkyB), BT Group, Fastweb SpA and Wind.

Carphone Warehouse has not been shortlisted as its offer of £550 Million was rejected.  Carphone could potentially become the largest broadband provider if it was to buy Tiscali.

Vodafone is understood to be in the strongest position to according to other reports, which would leap-frog them into becoming one of the bigger players in the broadband market.
