Ofcom has announced regulatory changes that will give BT the green light to build a superfast broadband fibre-optic network that will serve 10 million homes.

Full commentary below:

“The regulatory changes from Ofcom are good news for Britain’s broadband network, ” says Manoj Solanki from SeekBroadband.com.

“Now that BT have some sort of incentive to invest, we can safely say that at least 10 million homes will benefit from a speedier connection.

“This will open up more possibilities to more households, in terms of entertainment (the ability to watch high quality movies from the Internet), and also in business.  There will be opportunities for more individuals to work from home, with greater efficiency.

Solanki added:  “The only problem is that it is only serving 10 million homes in the UK.  Although not much is being said at the moment, expanding these plans to further homes is a realistic possibility.  It is one we believe will happen.”
